Forget the turkey leftovers. Let the holidays
begin in San Antonio
You’ll probably still be eating Thanksgiving leftovers, but the
holiday season in San Antonio kicks off on Friday, November 24, with
the annual Holiday River Parade and Lighting Ceremony presented by the Paseo del Rio Association and the City of San Antonio.
As part of this annual event, the switch is pulled to turn on over
122,000 lights, illuminating the River Walk until New Year's Day.
Decorated floats wind through the river in one of the country's only
nighttime river parades. Over 150,000 people are expected to gather
along the River Walk to watch the parade. Tickets for reserved seating
along the parade route are on sale now. Call the Paseo Del Rio
Association at 210-227-4262 ext. 106, Monday through Friday, from 9:00
a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The next day, school, church, civic and choral groups will ride barges
and spread the sounds of the holidays along the San Antonio River Walk
as part of the Ford Holiday Boat Caroling. The event will continue
nightly through December 17.
Don’t forget the Houston Street Fair and Market on Saturday, November
25. This free monthly event offers a day of food and fun on historic
Houston Street in downtown San Antonio. This month’s fair will be held
between Flores and Santa Rosa Streets.
