National Night Out
The City of San Antonio along
with the state of Texas will celebrate National Night Out (NNO) from
6:00 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7.
The official date across the country was celebrated in August but
the event was changed for Texas due to heat and mosquito problems
the state experiences during that month. This year is the 25th
Anniversary of the drug and crime prevention event.
During NNO, neighborhoods join together at block parties or
specialized social events to heighten drug and crime prevention
awareness; generate support for and participate in local anticrime
programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community; and
send a strong message to criminals letting them know that their
neighborhood along with millions of others are fighting back.
Last year, over 35 million people
participated in NNO across the country. In San Antonio, more than
450 communities and approximately 130,000 residents participated. In
fact, San Antonio has won three national NNO awards with the most
recent one being in 2006.
The entire San Antonio community is invited to turn on your porch
light and join in the fight against crime. For more information on
NNO, visit
