Diez y Seis de Septiembre 2008

Celebrate the 198th Anniversary of Mexico's Independence during Diez y Seis celebrations across the city September 3-16.

This year's celebration features a wide variety of spectacular events including a street parade, a mariachi concert featuring musicians of all ages, folklórico dancers, performances at the Arneson River theatre, a three-day celebration at Market Square and the Festival de los Niños. San Fernando Cathedral will also hold a special mass at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 7.

Diez y Seis de Septiembre, the 16th of September, signals the beginning of Mexico's battle for independence from Spain. It is on this day in 1810 that Father Miguel Hidalgo de Costilla led the first revolutionary forces against the Spaniards. The national Mexican holiday has been officially celebrated as Mexico's Independence Day since 1825.

Everyone is invited to celebrate this special day in Mexico's history. For more information on Diez y Seis de Septiembre 2008 and for a complete list of events taking place, visit www.sahearts.com.
