200,000 Smart Miles

San Antonio citizens are encouraged to achieve 200,000 “smart miles” this September during the Fourth Annual Walk & Roll Challenge.

Smart miles are efficient and healthy modes of transportation that reduce trips to the gas pump, save  money, improve air quality, and provide health benefits. They include walking, bike riding, carpooling, vanpooling, and riding the bus but do not include single-occupancy vehicle usage.

The four categories for this challenge are carpooling, walking, bike riding and busing. Participants with the best records will be recognized at the Live Green Fest on October, 11 at the Olmos Basin Park, 800 Olmos Drive.

September is typically the worst month for air pollution in San Antonio. reaching the goal of 200,000 smart miles will be equivalent to reducing 742 pounds of pollutants from the air.

This challenge will allow you the opportunity to save money, get your exercise, and help keep the air clean. Take the challenge this September and do your part for the environment. For more information and access to the online registration and logbook visit: http://www.walkandrollchallenge.com/.
