City looking for community input for Fiscal Year 2009 budget proposal

The City of San Antonio annual budget process is underway. Once again, the City is asking citizens for their input. Those residents that are interested in providing feedback to the budget planners are encouraged to submit their suggestions to the City's Budget Input Box.

Main Plaza Opening Ceremony
The City of San Antonio, Bexar County and Main Plaza Conservancy invite the community to celebrate the opening of Main Plaza - The Heart of the City on Sunday, April 13.  Festivities begin at 5:00 p.m. with a Mariachi Mass at San Fernando Cathedral followed by celebration activities at 6:00 p.m. and the opening ceremony at 7:30 p.m.  For more information, visit www.sanantonio.gov/mainplaza.
 
Building Better Credit Workshop
The South Texas Women's Business Center will be hosting a workshop focusing on building better credit from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 10. Before you apply for that loan, know your credit score! Follow steps to improve your credit and hear from lenders on what they look for in a credit rating. The workshop is free. Fiesta, San Antonio's annual 10-day, city-wide cultural celebration, officially begins on April 18. See the Fiesta San Antonio's website for details on this year's events.

Fiesta San Jacinto Holiday
City offices will be closed Friday, April 25, to observe the Fiesta San Jacinto holiday. Garbage, recyclables and brush will be collected. All libraries and Municipal Court will be closed. Golf courses will be open. Police, fire, EMS personnel and animal care officers will be on duty.
City-wide Cleanup Day makes spring cleaning easy

Ready to start your spring cleaning. If so, the City is offering you the perfect opportunity to get rid of those old appliances, furniture, mattresses, tires and all of those other items taking up valuable space with their annual City-wide Cleanup Day on April 5.

Don't miss the fast approaching tax filing deadline

April 15 is just around the corner so if you still have not filed your 2007 income tax return and you made less than $45,000 last year, there is still time for you to receive free income tax assistance through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.


San Antonio Library branches extends hours

The San Antonio Library branches have extended their service hours. The library system will add four additional public service hours to their schedules which will increase the service hours from 60 to 64 a week.

San Antonio radio reading service Owl Radio, Texas Public Radio, the San Antonio Public Library, and the San Antonio Public Library Foundation have announced a partnership to allow the print-impaired to participate in The Big Read San Antonio 2008, a city-wide celebration of To Kill a Mockingbird. From Monday, April 21, through Wednesday, April 30, Owl Radio will present the audiobook version of To Kill a Mockingbird every day at 1:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
