Getting a complete count of all people living in our area ensures that a portion of $400 billion in Federal funding will go directly to local community programs, healthcare, schools and infrastructure for the next 10 years.


VITA still offering free income tax assistance

April 15 is just around the corner so if you still have not filed your 2009 income tax return and you made less than $55,000 last year, there is still time for you to receive free income tax assistance through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Sites are open throughout the city.


Airport fully opens new two-tiered lanes

 The San Antonio International Airport completed its new two-tiered roadway system, opening the outer lanes of the lower level. These lanes are designated for shuttle busses and allow patrons the ability to circle the airport if needed, without congesting the inner lanes closest to the terminals.


City-wide Cleanup Day makes spring cleaning easy

Ready to kick your spring cleaning into gear? If so, the City is offering you the perfect opportunity to get rid of those old appliances, furniture, mattresses, tires and all of those other items taking up valuable space with their annual City-wide Cleanup Day on April 10.

2010 Women's Final Four  events

Esperanza Spalding
Enjoy the sounds of jazz as you spend a night with Esperanza Spalding the 20-something prodigy that has played with jazz heavyweights such as Pat Metheny, Joe Lovano, Michel Camilo and Regina Carter. CVB receives accreditation
Congratulations to the San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau for achieving accreditation from the Destination Marketing Accreditation Program (DMAP). Developed by Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI), this industry-wide accreditation program is designed to recognize destination marketing organizations that meet or exceed industry standards.

City services adjusted for
Fiesta San Jacinto Holiday

City offices will be closed Friday, April 23, to observe the Fiesta San Jacinto holiday. Garbage, recyclables and brush will be collected. All libraries and Municipal Court will be closed. Golf courses will be open. Police, fire, EMS personnel and animal care officers will be on duty.

Rivermist

After several requests from the City, Centex finally presented drawings prepared by their professional engineer to Development Services last month in order to stabilize the slope that failed and resulted in the retaining wall collapse. Development Services staff reviewed the drawings in consultation with the City's independent structural engineer; a permit to stabilize the area of the wall failure was issued by the City.

Summer Youth Programs

Registration for 40 Summer Youth Program school sites is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, April 10, and Saturday, April 17. The 2010 Summer Youth Program is an affordable, fun and safe program that will run from June 14 through Aug. 6 Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. A hot lunch and a snack are included as well as an entire day of recreation-themed activities, including games, sports, and arts and crafts.
Fiesta going green in 2010

Viva Fiesta! Fiesta is going green starting in 2010. The City's Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) is joining forces with the San Antonio Fiesta Commission to turn the two-week celebration green. Recycling will be offered at a number of Fiesta events across the city. The goal of both the Fiesta Commission and the City is to educate fiesta goers on how easy it is to recycle.

City Fiesta Medal goes under the sea

With the 2010 Fiesta celebration just weeks away, the City has unveiled its 2010 limited edition Fiesta Medal. This years medal is a replication of artist Donald Lipski's colorful and vibrant public art project, "F.I.S.H." Suspended beneath the IH-35 overpass at Camden Street over the San Antonio River's Museum Reach, "F.I.S.H." features 25, large-scale indigenous long-eared sunfish that become illuminated at dusk.
