City introduces new Fire Chief

City Manager Sheryl Sculley recently introduced Charles N. Hood as San Antonio’s new fire chief. Following City Council confirmation, Hood will begin his responsibilities on Monday, April 16, and will serve as the first African-American fire chief in the history of San Antonio.
 


Early voting for May 12 election begins April 30

Early voting for the May 12, 2007, Amendment, Joint, General, Special and Bond Election begins Monday, April 30. As part of this election, the City will ask voters to consider candidates for Mayor and City Council seats and to consider five individual bond propositions.

Firefighters stand ready to install smoke detectors in the home of every senior citizen as two City departments team up with local social service agencies for a new campaign to prevent home fire deaths.


Ground is broken on new airport parking garage

Mayor Phil Hardberger and San Antonio City Councilmembers recently broke ground on the airport’s new $46 million Long-Term Parking Garage. The structure, set to be partially operational by Christmas 2007, will bring an additional 2,800 spaces to the airport’s parking inventory.
 


Spring cleaning? Dispose of your old junk at City-wide Cleanup Day
Looking for a way to dispose of unwanted items such as old furniture, water heaters, brush and other items? Mark your calendar for City-wide Cleanup Day on Saturday, April 14, from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. City crews and trucks will be stationed at 20 locations to collect unwanted items. Bring a copy of a recent CPS Energy bill as proof you pay the City's garbage fee. No commercial or household hazardous waste will be accepted. For sites, call 311.
