City looking for community input for Fiscal Year 2010 budget proposal

The City of San Antonio annual budget process is underway. Once again, the City is asking residents for their input. Those residents that are interested in providing ideas are encouraged to submit their suggestions to the City's Budget Input Box.

Last month, the City of San Antonio's Office of Emergency Management announced the development of a flood public education and flood preparedness program called SAFE, San Antonio Flood Emergency System. The mission of SAFE is to provide early flood notification during heavy rain events and educate the public on actions necessary to protect life and property.

April 15 is just around the corner so if you still have not filed your 2009 income tax return and you made less than $45,000 last year, there is still time for you to receive free income tax assistance through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Sites are open throughout the city.


Public meeting to be held for the San Antonio Regional Business Disparity Causation Analysis Study

The City’s Economic Development Department will hold a public meeting from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 17 at the Central Library, 600 Soledad, to discuss the findings and recommendations of the San Antonio Regional Business Disparity Causation Analysis Study.

Celebrate Public Health Week

Join Metro Health as the department celebrates National Public Health Week, April 6 - 12. San Antonio's Public Health Team is teaming up with the San Antonio Public Library to host book and information displays in the Central Library and other select branches. Visit the display to get a list of public health related movies and books you can check out right there at the library and pick up tips on what you can do to improve you family's health. Walk Across Texas and Plant Sale
The San Antonio Botanical Garden is hosting "Walk Across Texas and Plant Sale", on Saturday, April 18 from 9 a.m. – noon. Plant sale 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Walk on the wild side with Master Naturalists as you discover the Texas Native Trail and encounter living history re-enactors! (Early admission for members). It's all about the mulch in April

For three weekends during the month of April the City's Solid Waste Management Department will be offering residents free premium mulch at the Brush Recycling Center, 1800 Bitters Road. From 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 18,and 25, and Sunday, April 12, 19 and 26, free mulch will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis as long as supplies last. Fiesta San Jacinto Holiday

City offices will be closed Friday, April 24, to observe the Fiesta San Jacinto holiday. Garbage, recyclables and brush will be collected. All libraries and Municipal Court will be closed. Golf courses will be open. Police, fire, EMS personnel and animal care officers will be on duty.

Early voting  for May 9 election

Early voting for the May 9 Joint General, Special and Bond Election will begin Monday, April 27 and run through Tuesday, May 5. For voting sites and times, visit www.sanantonio.gov/clerk/.

Show me your Fiesta® medal!

The City invites you to display your San Antonio pride with the Official City Fiesta® 2009 Medal. Inspired by artist Angel Rodriguez-Diaz’s 2008 public art project, The Beacon, this year’s medal illuminates the true spirit of San Antonio’s cultural heritage. The medal’s design motif is a direct replica of the oxidized steel 28-foot-tall illuminated sculpture that sits at the roundabout at Blanco Road and Fulton Street in the Beacon Hill Neighborhood.

Public comments for JLUS ends April 17

Residents have until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 17, to review and make comments on the Camp Bullis Draft Joint Land Use Study (JLUS) report. The report is available for viewing at www.campbullisjlus.com. Residents can provide comments directly onto the website.

Community Center - Summer Youth Programs

The Parks and Recreation Department's community centers are now registering youth for their summer youth programs. The programs will run from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. June 15 through August . The department provides a structured supervised program for children at 25 year-round community centers located throughout the city.

 

2009 San Antonio Export Leaders Program

The City of San Antonio’s International Affairs Department is accepting applications for the 2009 San Antonio Export Leaders Program (SAELP). The program is designed for companies that are considering entering or expanding their position in the global marketplace. To date, 79 graduates have successfully generated more than $77 million after completing the program.
