Citizens invited to provide input on proposed budget

City Manager Sheryl Sculley will present the FY 2011 Proposed Budget to City Council on Thursday, August 12. San Antonio residents are invited to offer their input on the City's proposed budget by attending community hearings in each Council district. The hearings are set to begin on Monday, August 16.


City makes improvements in service delivery to residents

The City of San Antonio conducted its second community survey through an independent consultant, ETC Institute, and the results indicate the City is moving in the right direction by raising City service delivery satisfaction levels in the community.


City receives $1.3 million infrastructure grant to revitalize Fort Sam Houston area

Last month the City received a $1.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce for basic infrastructure improvements as a part of the Walters Street Corridor Revitalization Initiative.


Municipal Court is now in "virtual" session

With the help of modern technology, the City's Customer Service/311 Department and Municipal Court implemented a new, innovative Video Court program at the Oak Ridge Plaza Community Link Center (11220 Perrin Beitel) to provide citizens with more accessibility to Municipal Court services - saving them time and money.


New Municipal Court service allows individuals opportunity to resolve traffic tickets online

Citizens can now resolve their traffic violations online with the help of a new service provided by the San Antonio Municipal Court. Through this service, individuals who have received a traffic citation from the City of San Antonio who wish to have their ticket resolved without the violation being reported on their driving record can now visit www.sanantonio.gov/court to request a driver safety course or deferred disposition (probation) from a municipal court judge.


OEP launches "Get Cyched" campaign

The City's Office of Environmental Policy (OEP) has launched "Get Cyched," a comprehensive advertising campaign to promote bicycling and educate the San Antonio community about the new rules of the road for both drivers and cyclists.
"Get Cyched" encourages both drivers and cyclists to make San Antonio a more bike-friendly city and features San Antonians using local bicycling facilities.


San Antonio's CULINARIA Restaurant Week set for August 21 - 28

The San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau along with CULINARIA, San Antonio's premier wine and culinary arts festival, invite residents to enjoy CULINARIA Restaurant Week: August 21-28. Three Course Pre Fixe Menus will be offered for lunch at the $15 price point and dinner at the $35 price point.


2nd annual Historic Homeowner Fair offers resources, information

Back-to-school Vaccinations
San Antonio's public health team is reminding parents to make vaccinations a top priority in their back-to-school preparations. Current immunization records are required, per State law, for children attending private, public or charter schools. Youngsters enrolled in a child-care facility, early childhood program, or pre-kindergarten program also must meet Texas immunization requirements. This year, some incoming college freshmen are required to have a specific vaccination as well. Metro Health clinics are available to assist families who are unable to schedule an appointment with a physician. The South Texas Women's Business Center (STWBC) is gearing up for the second annual Women's Business Symposium. City's ACS Hosts Prestigious Academy

The City's Animal Care Services played host to the nation's preeminent animal cruelty investigation academy in July. The academy was given by the National Cruelty Investigations School out of the University of Missouri-Columbia. The 40 hour course about animal control is provided to law enforcement agencies throughout the United States in an effort to increase training levels and institute a systematic approach to animal cruelty investigations. Head Start Policy Council
The San Antonio and Bexar County Head Start Policy Council is seeking to fill eight community representative positions. Citizens interested in being a part of this council and participating in the governance of the local Head Start Program are encouraged to apply. Interested applicants may obtain an application by visiting www.sanantonio.gov/clerk and selecting "Boards and Commissions Agendas," then selecting "Apply on-line" please ensure you select the Head Start Policy Council application. The deadline to submit an application is Friday, September 3.
Green Contractor Rebate Program
Applications are now being accepted for projects for the City's Green Contractor Rebate Program. The Green Contractor Rebate program is a joint effort of the City and Build San Antonio Green (BSAG). The purpose of the program is to offer incentives to contractors who renovate homes through Build San Antonio Green's Energy Retrofit certification program. Incentives are available for registered contractors who are members of BSAG. The rebate includes BSAG certification costs, home energy performance testing, and a cash rebate based on the level of energy efficiency improvement per home. Rebates are available until July 2012 or until funds are expended. Information on the Build San Antonio Green residential certification program can be found at www.buildsagreen.org.
