Citizens invited to provide input on proposed budget

City Manager Sheryl Sculley will present the FY 2009 Proposed Budget to City Council on Thursday, August 14. San Antonio residents are invited to offer their input on the City’s proposed budget by attending community hearings in each Council district. The hearings are set to begin on Tuesday, August 19.

 


Step up to recreation!

The City's Parks and Recreation Department invites the San Antonio community to get active, get fit, and "Step up to Recreation." The new promotional campaign focuses on the physical and mental benefits of regular recreational activity


Texas Football Classic

Houston Street Fair

The Houston Street Fair will take place on Saturday, August 30. The theme for this month's fair is "Car Show". The fair features hand-made art and crafts by artists and artisans from San Antonio and the surrounding areas. Not to mention there is plenty to eat and drink. Fall Arts Festivals
During the month of September several festivals will take place that will showcase the arts of photography, film and jazz. Residents are invited to get a taste of the arts by attending Fotoseptiembre, September 1-30, The European Film Festival, September 8-11, and Jazz Alive, September 20-21. City services adjusted, closed
for upcoming Labor Day holiday
City offices will be closed Monday, September 1, to observe the Labor Day holiday. Garbage, recyclables and brush will be collected. All libraries and Municipal Court will be closed. Golf courses will be open. Police, fire, EMS personnel and animal care officers will be on duty.

The San Antonio International Airport is offering travelers a new benefit when they arrive at their designated terminal--access to the internet. On July 4, both facilities at the airport became giant "hot spots" offering free wi-fi for laptop users.

An exhibit by acclaimed photographer Chris Jordan will be displayed August 3 through August 29 at the Central Library, 600 Soledad. The exhibit, Running the Numbers: An American Self Portrait, casts light on the staggering levels of mass-consumption in America.
Slow down for school zones
 

Summer is almost over which means kids across the city will be heading back to school. And as the school year begins, the San Antonio Police Department wants all drivers to be cautious and slow down in area school zones.
