City of San Antonio launches
Embrace BRAC San Antonio campaign
Last month, the City of San Antonio launched the Embrace
BRAC San Antonio public awareness campaign in front of 200
community leaders, military officers and elected officials at Fort
Sam Houston’s historic Quadrangle Mall. The multimedia
communications effort is aimed at creating greater local awareness
about the opportunities presented by the multi-billion-dollar
military realignment project happening in San Antonio.
Before the school bell rings, make sure your child has all of their
vaccinations
Don't let your child be unprepared for the new school year. Make sure
your student's vaccinations are up-to-date. Beginning this month,
all students must have the following vaccinations before they return
to school.

- SAPD targets crime with new
initiatives -
Since February 2009 the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) has
initiated six new initiatives to help fight crime. The initiatives
deal with problems ranging from car theft to violent crimes. The six
initiatives are as follows:

The San
Antonio Metropolitan Health District has published its inaugural
annual report Building the
Foundation for a Healthier San Antonio. The report
highlights the department’s programs, services, and

Back to School with
the library |
|
To prepare students for back-to-school, the San Antonio Public
Library will be visiting shopping centers around town to sign kids
and their parents up for library cards. The event is part of the
Library’s “Be One in a Million” campaign to register one million
cardholders. The Library’s bright purple Bookmobile will lead
the Library card sign-up campaign at the shopping centers. For

Women's Business
Symposium |

STWBC is
hosting the Women's Business Symposium on August 28.
This event will celebrate women entrepreneurs, connect small
business owners, and provide information on contracting

Houston Street Fair |
|
The Houston
Street Fair will take place on Saturday, August 29. The theme for
this month's fair is "Third Annual Car Show". The fair features hand-made
art and crafts by artists and artisans from San Antonio and the
surrounding areas. Not to mention there is plenty to eat and

for upcoming Labor Day holiday |

City offices will
be closed Monday, September 7, to observe the Labor Day holiday. Garbage, recyclables and brush will
be
collected. All libraries and Municipal Court will be closed.
Golf courses will be open. Police, fire,
EMS personnel and animal care officers will be on duty. |

Exhibitors needed for Historic
Homeowner Fair
The City’s
Office of Historic Preservation is looking for exhibitors interested
in participating in the Historic Homeowner Fair that will take place
from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29 at the Municipal
Auditorium, 100 Auditorium Circle.
The fair will include sessions on improving energy efficiency,
repairing historic wood windows, “green” living in historic
properties, appropriate landscaping, and appropriate additions to
historic homes. |
Westfall Branch library closing for
renovations
The Westfall Branch Library, 6111 Rosedale court, will close
on Monday, August 17, for renovations which will include
a roof replacement; parking lot repairs; American Disability Act
upgrades to sidewalk and handicapped parking spaces; installation of new carpet; new interior
painting; renovation of the
restrooms; repainting of the monument sign and the installation of a lighted
flagpole. |

extended through October
The
show will go on!
Movies by
Moonlight
outdoor film series has extended its run through the end of October.
“This summer we have had an average crowd of more than 650
moviegoers each Thursday and we are thrilled that our residents and
visitor’s have embraced Movies by Moonlight,” said Paula Stallcup,
director of the City’s Downtown Operations Department
