City-Toyota Green Clean-up Project
Helping to beautify San Antonio

The City of San Antonio has teamed up with Toyota to create the City-Toyota Green Clean-Up Project. The  project that was introduced by City leaders during the City Council Ceremonials on Thursday, will target 17 sites throughout the city that range from trash collection and curb maintenance to brush clean up, tree planting and painting.

The mission
Beginning September 22 through September 26, volunteer crews, made up of Toyota team members and their on-site suppliers, will begin work in area parks in each of the 10 council districts. Toyota and its on-site suppliers pledged 340 team members for the clean up effort, combined.

Toyota's on-site suppliers include Avanzar Interior Technologies, Futaba Industrial Texas Corporation, MetoKote Corporation, Millennium Steel of Texas, Reyes Automotive Group, Toyota Logistics Services and Vutex, Incorporation. The City-Toyota Green Clean-up Project will continue from October 6 to October 10.

The accomplishment
By the end of the two weeks of this joint venture between the City and Toyota, the clean-up team will have volunteered over 17,000 hours of their time and saved the City an estimated value of more than $273,235.
Toyota and its suppliers are dedicated to the San Antonio community.

"Toyota has proven to be a true community partner by not only investing in our workforce, but also by helping to beautify our city," said Mayor Phil Hardberger.

Toyota's dedication

Besides the launch of this clean-up project, the manufacturer opened up a Visitor and Education Center this week. The interactive museum includes exhibits of
exercises similar to those Toyota uses to train its workers and a trivia game that lets visitors build a virtual truck by adding parts each time they answer correctly. Also on display are a working assembly robot and a 1964 Toyota Stout pickup. In January, Toyota will begin conducting tours of the San Antonio plant.

Since it's opening in 2006, Toyota has produced over 226,000 full-size Tundra trucks.
