New Marshal Unit to track outstanding warrants

Outstanding misdemeanor warrants filed in Municipal Court will be enforced expeditiously and efficiently under the City’s new Marshal Unit.

Help give pets warmth, shelter -
donate your unused dog house
Animal Care Services (ACS) is seeking donations of new or gently-used dog houses for distribution to needy pet owners.
Outdoor pets need shelter from the elements, especially during extreme weather situations. Donations can be brought to the ACS facility across from the zoo in Brackenridge Park. Donated dog houses will be given to residents who otherwise could not afford shelter for their outdoor pets and all requests will be reviewed on a case by case basis. Call 207-6650.

Presidents' Day Holiday
City offices will be closed Monday, February 19, to observe the Presidents' Day holiday. Garbage and recyclables and brush will be collected. All libraries and Municipal Court will be closed. Golf courses will be open. Police, fire and EMS personnel, and animal care officers will be on duty.
Forest Hills Library reopens
after repairs and renovations
Forest Hills Branch Library, 5245 Ingram Road, has reopened after being closed since December 23, 2006, for repairs and renovations. The project included repairs to the air conditioning system, roof and parking lot, and replacement of interior and exterior lighting.

As part of the City's recent activation of its Ice Response Plan, more than 9,600 gallons of liquid de-icing material and 2,700 tons of chat rock were used to make area streets safe to drive. Public Works also helped the Texas Department of Transportation re-open 300 lane miles of highway locations around San Antonio.

Fire Department introduces new EMS voucher program,
receives 19 new pumper trucks

 
The San Antonio Fire Department has initiated a new pilot voucher program for non-critical patients that will allow many units to be available to respond to more critical trauma and medical emergencies.

New Microsoft Data Center keeps city's technology sector clicking

City of San Antonio and Bexar County officials announced recently that Microsoft Corporation plans to invest $550 million to build a new data center in northwest San Antonio. The 400,000-square-foot facility is expected to have a net fiscal benefit to the city of more than $20 million over the next 20 years and enhance San Antonio’s growing information technology industry sector.

Are you puzzled by tax law and need assistance with preparing your income tax return? If so, the City’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program wants to file your tax return free and help you claim your fair share of the tax credits.
 


Community input sought on BRAC actions in San Antonio

The Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) actions of 2005 will significantly increase the military’s impact in San Antonio. To adequately plan for the BRAC changes, a one-day Community Visioning Session will be held on Friday, February 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.

Special leaf collection for
two-cart service areas


Solid waste ratepayers receiving the City’s new two-cart automated garbage and recyclables collection service will be provided with a special collection for leaves that cannot be disposed within the normal weekly garbage collection service.
