As the temperatures begin to rise, the City of San Antonio wants everyone to remember the elderly community.
The City is once again teaming up with residents and several local corporate and human service organizations to collect and distribute electric box fans to help elderly citizens who may suffer most from high summer temperatures.
 


City to host free seminar focusing on commercial location and home occupation requirements

The City's Economic Development Department (EDD) Small Business Division will host a free seminar on Wednesday, June 10 for prospective small business owners wanting to learn about commercial location and home occupation requirements. The workshop will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Frost Bank Tower, 100 West Houston St., Suite 1900.
 


Don’t let a good can of paint go to waste
City’s Graffiti Abatement Program kicks off paint drive

Do you have a good can of paint lying around your garage? If you have cans of paint sitting around your home collecting dust then the City has a proposition for you. The City’s Housing and Neighborhood Services Department’s Graffiti Abatement Program in partnership with the Solid Waste Management Department is looking to collect several good gallons of paint as they kick-off their annual paint drive to collect paint for the 2009 Graffiti Wipeout event.


Recycling the right way

This summer, the Solid Waste Management Department is challenging San Antonio residents to learn the do's and don'ts of recycling. Recycling is the key to managing your solid waste. The more recyclable items you place in the blue cart the more space you will have in the brown. Recycling within our city has become easy, now we want to encourage you to help us out and join our fight to improve the environment for the next generation of San Antonians.


Rumba Dreams
With their colorful, flamboyant costumes and high-energy music, Rumba Dreams will light up the stage as the talented dance troupe takes you on a musical journey through an amalgamation of forms of art of dance. Rumba Dreams represents ones desires to dream – dreaming the impossible and making it a reality. The event takes place on Saturday, June 13 at 8 p.m. Cost $26. Concerts Under the Stars

During the months of June and July citizens are invited to enjoy live music under the stars at the San Antonio Botanical Gardens. General admission is $5. Vistors should bring lawn chairs and blankets. Concessions available. The fun begins on June 11 with Second Nature. Texas Folklife Festival

Our Part of Town
Open auditions will be held on June 13, 20 and 26 for the 2009 Our Part of Town. Performers compete in shows in their perspective Council Districts. City services adjusted for Independence Day holiday
City offices will be closed Friday, July 3, to observe the Independence Day holiday. Garbage, recyclables and brush will be collected. All libraries and Municipal Court will be closed. Golf courses will be open. Police, fire, EMS personnel and animal care officers will be on duty.

Registration open for 2009 Community Development Summit

Registration is open for the 2009 Community Development Summit, scheduled for September 16 and September 17 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, located at 200 E. Market.

Movies by Moonlight returns

Dust off your blankets and lawn chairs and get set for the return of a cinematic experience as the City brings back Movies by Moonlight every Thursday this summer at Hemisphere Park (600 Hemisphere Plaza Way). A series of family-friendly movies will take center stage beginning June 4. The pre-show activities will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Splish, Splash, City pools are officially open

The City's Parks and Recreation Department is happy to invite residents out to take a cool splash in one of the 23 outdoor swimming pools opening June 6. The pools are opened from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday until August 9. General admission is free.

Dog Awareness Week

The City's Animal Care Services (ACS) in conjunction with the River City Cluster of Dog Shows (RCCDS) will sponsor a citywide "Dog Awareness Week" July 6 through July 12. This initiative coincides with the dog show being held at the Henry B Gonzalez Convention Center and features family-friendly events to emphasize the message of responsible pet ownership.
