featured in 2010 World Expo
Mayor Julián Castro and Councilwoman Elisa
Chan lead a delegation of more than 70 city and business leaders to
Shanghai, China on May 22 to May 28 to attend the 2010 World Expo.
The delegation not only represented the City of San Antonio at the
largest exposition in history, but it also worked to forge economic
and cultural relations and create business opportunities. In
addition, Mayor Castro signed Friendship City Agreements with the
two Chinese cities of Suzhou and Wuxi.
Office of
the City Clerk to process passports
Last month the City Council approved an ordinance that provides for
the Office of the City Clerk to be designated as a U.S. Department
of State Passport Acceptance Facility (PAF).
Staff at the Office of the City Clerk will accept applications and
take passport photos. The Office of the City Clerk will be the only
municipality in Bexar County designated as a PAF.
Downtown
parking goes green with new solar-powered Parking Pay Stations
Last Month, the City began phasing in the
first solar-powered parking pay stations in downtown San Antonio.
Installation of these pay stations will continue through the end of
June. Upon completion, 134 parking pay stations will be in place
throughout downtown's busiest corridors.
The parking pay stations provide motorists with the convenience of
paying for parking with credit/debit cards in addition to coins.
It's Back....Movies by
Moonlight returns
Your
favorite family-friendly movie series is back, Movies by
Moonlight returns this month for its third installment. So, dust
off your blankets and lawn chairs and get set for the return of a
cinematic experience every
Thursday this summer at Hemisphere Park (600 Hemisphere Plaza Way).
Show time
begins at 7:30 p.m. with a pre-show entertainment followed by a
brief intermission and the feature film beginning at 8:30 p.m.
Dog
Awareness Week
The City's Animal Care Services (ACS) in conjunction with the River
City Cluster of Dog Shows (RCCDS) will sponsor a citywide "Dog
Awareness Week" June 12 through June 20.
This initiative
coincides with the dog show being held at the Henry B Gonzalez
Convention Center and features family-friendly events to emphasize
the message of responsible pet ownership.
City pools are officially open
Time to
pull out the swimsuits and get
ready to take a dip in one of the City's 23 outdoor swimming pools
opening June 12. The pools are opened from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Tuesday through Sunday. Most pools will close on August 15. General admission is free.
Water
aerobics are a great form of exercise that is low impact and heart
healthy. Classes are offered from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday,
Wednesday and Thursday.
Centex seeks permits to re-build wall at the
Rivermist subdivision
In May, the Planning and Development Services Department, Centex, and
the Bexar County Rivermist Homeowners Association, along with their
respective professional engineers, met to jointly review the
engineer drawings to re-build the retaining wall. At the meeting,
both the Development Services Department and the homeowners
association requested additional information from Centex.
Help seniors stay cool this summer...donate to
Project Cool
Be cool with Project Cool and donate a fan to help an
elderly San Antonio resident.
The City is once again teaming up with residents and
several local corporate and human service organizations to collect and
distribute electric box fans to help elderly citizens who may suffer
most from high summer temperatures. |

Head Start
Now Enrolling |

The City of San Antonio and Bexar
County Head Start Program is currently accepting applications
for its 2010-2011 program year. Head Start provides San Antonio
and Bexar County low income and other eligible children 3 to 5
years old, and their families high quality educational,
nutritional, medical, dental, mental health, and other services.
The program provides six to eight hours of full day services,
Monday through Friday, throughout the year. Transportation and
extended care are available for children meeting eligibility
criteria. Head Start also provides services to children with
disabilities, including severe disabilities. For more
