City of San
Antonio Community Survey
In 2007, the City of San Antonio
contracted with the Cultural Policy Institute of the University of
Texas at San Antonio to conduct a city-wide community survey in
January/February of 2008. The overall purpose of the community
survey was to identify residents' satisfaction with City services.
The information will be used to identify areas of improvement. The
survey was conducted in both English and Spanish by telephone.
Project Cool seeks fan donations
As the temperatures begin to rise, the City of San Antonio wants
everyone to remember the elderly community. The City is once again teaming up with residents and
several local corporate and human service organizations to collect and
distribute electric box fans to help elderly citizens who may suffer
most from high summer temperatures.

Recycle in Blue. It's Easy to Do!
The City's Solid Waste Management
Department is ready to change how residents think about solid waste.
The department has launched a public awareness campaign to encourage
residents to become better environmental stewards by recycling and
learning new tools to help reduce their overall household waste.
Municipal Court extends night court service
Municipal Court is extending its service to the
community through new convenient night court hours. The new hours
for non-jury trials, which began June 1, are as following:
Monday and Thursday - 5:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Tuesday and Wednesday - 4:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m., 6:00
p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

looking for suggestions for the Fiscal Year 2009 budget
proposal. Suggestions or ideas may be submitted in English or
Spanish. All ideas must be submitted by July 14. Visit

Hispanic theater and performing arts |

The 4th Annual
TeatroFest will take place June 2-27 at the Guadalupe Cultural
Arts Center. The month-long festival celebrates Hispanic Theater

Walk |

Texas Folklife
Festival |

San Antonio
celebrates Juneteenth |

Observances
throughout the city, including a picnic, festival, Freedom Fair,
and cultural celebrations honoring the date of June 19, 1865.
Freedom in 1865 meant no more slavery. Today, that freedom
includes education, economics and social opportunities.
Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration of the ending of

Tree planting challenge
The City of San Antonio has announced
the launch of the Neighborhood Challenge and Commercial Tree
Planting programs with the goal of planting 825 new trees across the
city during the upcoming fall tree planting season. |
Safety tips for
summer fun
Summer is almost here! That means it is time to pull out the barbecue
grills and hit the pool. But before you start to engage in summer
activities, the San Antonio Fire Department would like you to keep
these safety tips in mind.

Pool time
The City's Parks and Recreation
Department is happy to announce that the 23 outdoor swimming pools
open June 7. The pools are opened from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Tuesday through Sunday until August 10. General admission is free.
Swimming lessons, water aerobics and private rentals are available
for a fee. |
BRAVO 2008
The
2008 Bravo season is about to begin! Come join the City's Parks and
