Mark your calendars! Construction on the historic Main Plaza is almost complete. The grand opening, slated for April 13, promises to be a celebration for the record books.
 


Luminaria

San Antonio residents are invited to attend the City's First Annual Luminaria on Saturday, March 15. Luminaria, which means a small clever light that conjures up creative ideas which inspires waves of innovation, is an all day celebration that will highlight San Antonio's premier artists and art organizations through visual, performing, multi-media, theatre, dance, music and other artistic forms.


Deep in the heart of San Antonio

Last month, the City's Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) unveiled its new branding campaign "San Antonio. Deep. In the Heart." The new campaign embraces the city's spirit, pride, and culture, and aims to share that passion with visitors. Its goal is to make it easier for visitors to unlock their personal passions on a trip to San Antonio.


Time to brush up on the rules for brush collection

Have you recently cleaned your yard and have a pile of brush to get rid of. Well, before you place that brush on the curb the City's Solid Waste Management Department wants you to get brushed up on the rules for brush collection.


Southeast Community Link Center open for business

Last month, the City's Customer Service Department celebrated its re-grand opening of their Southeast Community Link Center location. The center recently relocated from McCreless Mall to the new City Base Landing Shopping Center, 3154 S.E. Military Drive.

Houston Street Fair & Market
The Houston Street fair and Market is a free one day event that offers San Antonio residents a place to have fun with their families. The event takes place monthly from noon to 6:00 p.m. on the last Saturday of the month. Visitors can hang out in the children's activity area, visit the "Pets in the Park" adoption area, or pick up a few hand-made crafts. They also have the opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of food and drinks. Free parking is also available on the event day at the St. Mary's Street parking garage. Help make downtown shine
March 8 & March 14
In preparation for the NCAA Final Four events in April, volunteers will be helping to clean up areas of downtown including Houston Street & Hemisfair Park on March 8 and Alamo Street on March 14. If you are interested in volunteering, contact Sonia Gaeta at (210) 207-8605 or (210) 216-9622.

The Big Read!

The City of San Antonio is celebrating the great American tale To Kill a Mockingbird. Everyone is invited to read, discover (or re-discover) and share this story. The San Antonio Library and the San Antonio Public Library Foundation have put together a series of author appearances, programs and discussion opportunities to appeal to anyone with an interest in this great novel. City services adjusted for
upcoming Good Friday Holiday
City offices will be closed March 21, to observe the Good Friday holiday. Garbage and recyclables and brush will be collected. All libraries and Municipal Court will be closed. Golf courses will be open. Police, fire and EMS personnel, and animal care officers will be on duty.
 

 

 

Free income tax assistance available for eligible taxpayers

If you need assistance preparing your taxes, the City has just what you need. Local residents can take advantage of free tax preparation through the City's Volunteer Income Tax (VITA) Program.

2008 Cesar E. Chavez March for Justice set for March 29

San Antonians are invited to several events commemorating the legacy of civil rights leader Cesar E. Chavez including the 12th Annual Cesar E. Chavez March for Justice on Saturday, March 29.

Fresh Air Friday

The Alamo Area Council of Governments, Natural Resources Division, will host Fresh Air Friday 2008 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 28. at Travis Park.
