Come celebrate the grand opening of Hardberger Park on Saturday, May 15. The celebration begins at 10 a.m. with a dedication ceremony. The festivities will continue throughout the weekend with various activities taking place until 4 p.m. each day.


City receives $10 million grant for Energy-efficiency program

The Obama Administration announced last month that San Antonio is one of 25 cities selected to receive a $10 million grant as part of the Department of Energy American Recovery and Reinvestment Act "Retrofit Ramp-Up" Awards. The grant will fund a new program called the San Antonio Green Retrofit Initiative which will implement green building retrofits that lead to major cost-savings in energy upgrades for residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.


Kohl's selects San Antonio for new Operations Center

 Kohl's Corporation announced last month that it has selected San Antonio as the site for its new operations center creating 1,065 new jobs over the next three years. Kohl's plans to invest $22 million to locate at the 102,000 square-foot Westover Office Center I building located in the Westover Hills area and expand the facility to 150,000 square feet. Kohl's plans to meet at least a "silver" LEED building standard through its improvements at this facility with the installation of solar paneling and other green building features.


Downtown Stars

Several City department, projects and even our own mayor was recognized last month at the of 10th Annual Downtown Alliance Best Awards. Downtown's BEST Award recognizes the people, organizations, and places that have made significant contributions to Downtown San Antonio, creating a better place to live, work, shop, play, and be entertained.


National Historic Preservation Month

Join the City's Office of Historic Preservation in celebrating the month of May as Historic Preservation Month. Not only can you take this month to relish in the rich cultural heritage of our city, but you can also use this time to recognize, discuss, and celebrate the aesthetic, environmental and economic value historic preservation brings to San Antonio.

"Well Deserved" Award

The City of San Antonio has received the "Well Deserved" award from UnitedHealthcare. The national award honors employers who demonstrate an exceptional commitment to improving their employees' health and well-being. Award winners were recognized for implementing exemplary wellness programs aimed at reducing health risks and improving prevention among employees. San Antonio was one of 11 national recipients.

Dayton Contemporary Dance Company
Enjoy the vibrant imagery and choreography of the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC) on Friday, May 7 at 8 p.m. at the Jo Long Theatre. Tickets are $31. Solicitations 101
The City of San Antonio's Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) is offering a seminar entitled Solicitations 101 that will focus on how the federal government buys. The event which is free is scheduled for Tuesday, May 25 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the San Antonio Central Library, 600 Soledad. Parking is free for the first hour. City services adjusted for
Memorial Day Holiday

City offices will be closed Monday, May 31, to observe the Memorial Day holiday. Garbage, recyclables and brush will be collected. All libraries and Municipal Court will be closed. Golf courses will be open. Police, fire, EMS personnel and animal care officers will be on duty.
Centex informed the City on April 29 that they will not be submitting engineer plans for the permanent solution to rebuild the retaining wall by their original deadline of April 30. They stated the reason for not submitting the plans was that they were in the process of conducting a peer review and do not anticipate plans being available until May 7.
