“One-stop” center opens for San Antonio area seniors

As the country prepares for a population increase of older citizens from the Baby Boom generation, local and federal leaders joined seniors recently to celebrate the grand opening of a new center designed specifically for the needs and desires of seniors.
 


Process begins for crafting City’s 2008 budget

The City’s annual budget process is already underway. Again this year, City budget planners are soliciting input from residents and employees to help formulate a proposed balanced budget for the City’s 2008 Fiscal Year (FY) that will be presented to City Council and to the community on August 16.


City looking for neighborhoods to sweep

The City of San Antonio’s Housing & Neighborhood Services Department is accepting applications for the Extreme Neighborhood Target Sweep Program to be conducted during the City’s 2007-2008 Fiscal Year beginning October 1. The deadline to submit applications is Friday, June 29.


City tests environmentally-friendly solar-powered trash bins

In an effort to take advantage of the benefits of solar technology, the City recently installed two Big Belly® solar-powered trash compactors in Alamo Plaza as part of a pilot program to reduce the frequency of collecting waste in the downtown area.


City Council, bond propositions to be considered by voters on May 12

upcoming Memorial Day Holiday
City offices will be closed Monday, May 28, to observe the Memorial Day holiday. Garbage, recyclables and brush will be collected. All libraries and Municipal Court will be closed. Golf courses will be open. Police, fire, EMS personnel and animal care officers will be on duty.

It's spring and San Antonians love to get outdoors and barbecue. The San Antonio Fire Department offers citizens some general safety tips to make their outdoors cooking experience safe.

Keep up with redevelopment of San Antonio's historic Main Plaza

The redevelopment project at Main Plaza is underway. The project will improve drainage, pedestrian accessibility, ADA accessibility, and reinforce the historical nature of the plaza. Work also will require periodic closures of streets and sidewalks around the plaza. For more details on the project, see www.sanantonio.gov/mainplaza.

Turn around, don't drown. Use caution during spring storms.

San Antonio has experienced significant spring rainfall over the last few weeks. While the precipitation is welcome to increase Edwards Aquifer levels as another hot, dry South Texas summer approaches, it also reminds motorists to exercise caution as they drive through low water crossings and other areas that may experience flash floods.

Brush up on brush collection

Is it time for a little spring cleaning? If you’re thinking about trimming your trees or putting that old mattress out for the garbage, hold on. Long tree limbs, mattresses and appliances are not picked up through your regular garbage collection services. Don’t dump these items on your curb. Wait until you receive a yellow brush collection notice letting you know it’s your turn to dispose of such items.
