It's official, the plaza is now open. Main Plaza - The Heart of the City opened in grand fashion on April 13.

 


Process begins for developing City’s 2009 Budget

The City’s annual budget process is underway. City budget strategists are soliciting input from residents and employees to help formulate a proposed balanced budget for the City’s 2009 Fiscal Year (FY) that will be presented to City Council and to the community on August 14.


Low-fare airlines arrive in San Antonio


On April 14, Spirit Airlines officially entered the San Antonio market with a very special ribbon-cutting ceremony. The ultra low-cost carrier based in Miramar, Florida, began operations with a daily nonstop flight between San Antonio and Fort Lauderdale.

Memorial Day Holiday
City offices will be closed Monday, May 26, to observe the Memorial Day holiday. Garbage, recyclables and brush will be collected. All libraries and Municipal Court will be closed. Golf courses will be open. Police, fire, EMS personnel and animal care officers will be on duty.

Cinco de Mayo Celebration

Cinco de Mayo (5th of May) celebrations commemorate the Mexican Army’s defeat of the invading French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1861. San Antonio has many Cinco de Mayo events around the city.
 
Cinco de Mayo at Market Square
will take place from May 2-5. Festivities include mariachis, tejano and conjunto groups, folklore dancers, arts & crafts, concerts and lots of great food. For  more information, call (210) 207-8600.
Return of the Chili Queens (Memorial Day Celebration)
The annual Memorial Day weekend celebration will take place in Market Square May 24-26. The festival is a tribute to chili - said to have originated in San Antonio. At the Return of the Chili Queens, there is music, dancing, arts and crafts demos and a whole lot of chili. For more information on the event, call (210) 207-8600.
Houston Street Fair &Market
The Houston Street fair and Market is a free one day event that offers San Antonio residents a place to have fun with their families. The event takes place monthly from noon to 6:00 p.m. on the last Saturday of the month. This month it will take place on May 31. The theme for the day is Bike Fest. Library's 2008 Summer Reading Program

This summer children of San Antonio are encouraged to join Mayor Phil Hardberger and the San Antonio Public Library as they spend the summer escaping the heat by spending the day reading.
