National Night Out
The City of San Antonio along
with the state of Texas will celebrate National Night Out (NNO) from
6:00 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7.
Register to vote
Don't forget to register to vote! If you want to vote in this
year's historical election but have not registered, time is running
out. Monday, October 6, is the last day for citizens to register to
be eligible to vote in the City's November 4 Joint General and
Special Election.
Fire Prevention Week
October 5 through 11 is Fire Prevention week. The annual event was
established to mark the anniversary of the "Great Chicago Fire" that
occurred in 1871. This year's theme is "Prevent Home Fires."
According to the National Fire Protection Association, public fire
departments responded to more than 1.5 million fires in the United
States in 2007.
Solid Waste Rate Change
Effective
October 1, San Antonio solid waste rate payers will see an increase
in the solid waste fee. The fee will increase by $0.75 cents
per month. The rate increase which was approved by City Council will
help to meet the demands of rising fuel, labor and operational
costs.

My Child Has Cancer
Month |

The San Antonio Public Library
presents Della L. Howell, M.D., author of My Child Has Cancer
on Saturday, October 4 at 2 p.m. She will discuss a wide
range of topics from her book including types of pediatric
cancers, symptoms and treatments. The event is free and open to

Domestic
Violence Awareness Month |

October is
Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The theme for this year is
"Be Defiant: Choose Non Violence." SAPD's Victims Advocacy
is sponsoring two events on October 17, The "VINE Program" from
8:30 - 10:15 a.m. and "Risk and Resiliency of Youth" from 10:30
a.m.- 12:15 p.m. Both events will take place at the AACOG Board

Accordion Festival |

The International
Accordion Festival will be held October 11 through 12 on the
grounds of La Villita. Participants are invited to enjoy great

BOOtanica! Fall Festival. The San Antonio Botanical
Gardens invites you to bring your littlest gremlins and goblins to

Third Annual SABCA Academy
The City's
Development Services Department San Antonio Building Codes Academy (SABCA)
will host their third annual academy October 7 through October 10
from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day at the Henry B. Gonzalez
