Fall Art Festivals
The Fall Art Festivals, a three-month
celebration of the Arts in San Antonio , kicks-off this September with
Fotoseptiembre and
Jazz's Alive.
Fotoseptiembre is a month-long
celebration of the photographic arts. Exhibits take place across the
city and in the Texas Hill Country, showcasing traditional
photography, digital images, photography based works, photographic
installations and more.
Proposed
FY 2011 budget
The FY 2011 Proposed Budget will be presented to City Council on Thursday,
September 16, for adoption. For the past few weeks, San Antonio residents
have provided their input on the City's proposed budget by attending
community hearings in each Council district.
Take a
historic stroll down Houston Street
In partnership with the
U.S. General Services Administrations Good Neighbor Program, the City's Office of Historic Preservation, Convention and Visitors
Bureau and Downtown Operations are enhancing the downtown visitor
experience with interpretive signage in Alamo Plaza and along
historic Houston Street.
Signage in Alamo Plaza, produced in partnership with The Alamo,
provides information regarding the mission as it existed in 1836. A
marker at the main entrance provides a historical view of the North
Wall framed by the outline of the original arched entrance to the
compound.
Downtown
Operations Department teams up with SAWS to conserve water
The Downtown Operations
Department, in partnership with the San Antonio Water Systems (SAWS)
completed a water conservation project for the
HemisFair
Park
water fountains.
The project uses recycled groundwater as
make up water for the HemisFair fountains.
7th Annual Graffiti Wipeout Days
It's
that time of year again, time for the residents of San Antonio to
band together to help wipeout graffiti. If you are ready to make a
difference in your community, then the City's Housing and
Neighborhood Services Department invites you to take part in the
Seventh Annual Graffiti Wipeout Days.
Mobile HHW event coming to the Alamodome
Saturday, September 11,
the City's Solid Waste Management
Department will host a mobile household hazardous waste event (HHW)
from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at
the Alamodome's Lot B, 100 Montana Street. All San Antonio residents are encouraged to take part in this event.
2010 Diez y Seis de Septiembre
Celebrate
the 200th Anniversary of Mexico's Independence during Diez y Seis
celebrations across the city throughout the month of September.
This year's celebration features a wide variety of spectacular
events including lectures, a mariachi festival and fashion show, folklorico dance
performances,
the 29th Annual Avenida Guadalupe Association's
16 de Septiembre Parade & Festival,
an
international youth basketball tournament, and a special 8:00 a.m.
mass at San Fernando Cathedral on Sunday, September 12.
CVB looking
for volunteers to assist at inaugural Las Americas Golf Tournament
The San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau
(SACVB) in conjunction with Outside the Box Productions are looking
for volunteers to assist with the inaugural Las Americas Golf
Tournament and Events taking place Friday, September 17 through
Tuesday, September 21 at the Westin La Cantera, 16641 La Cantera
Parkway.

Labor Day Holiday City Services Schedule |
|
City offices will
be closed Monday, September 6, to observe the Labor Day holiday. Garbage, recyclables and brush will
be
collected. All libraries and Municipal Court will be closed.
Golf courses will be open. Police, fire,
EMS personnel and animal care officers will be on duty. |

ACS Free Pet Registration |
|
This is the last month to take
advantage of the City's Animal Care Services offer for free pet
registration. The complimentary licensing will run until
September 30.
Licensing your pet is
the Law and failure to get your pet licensed can result in a
hefty fine up to $250. For more information, visit

Development Summit |

Early bird registration for the 2010
Community Development Summit has been extended to September
30. The event will take place on Tuesday, October 12 at the
Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, 200 E. Market. Cost is $95 for
the private sector; $50 for the public sector; $65 for non-profit
organizations; $35 for students and $75 for ULI, AIA, and APA

family-friendly movie series this September as they celebrate
musicals. Sing along with Annie, Hairspray,
Jailhouse Rock and Nine.
Show time begins at 7:30 p.m. with a
pre-show entertainment followed by a brief intermission and the
feature film beginning at 8:30 p.m. The feature time and
schedule may vary due to the length of the movie. Grab your
blankets and lawn chairs and come out to enjoy the show.
