City pulls together to help Gustav evacuees
The City of San Antonio once again showed its hospitality and
compassion as Hurricane Gustav hit the Gulf Coast causing residents
of Louisiana and the East Texas coast to seek refuge from the storm.
Pilot
program restricts the usage of cell phones in school zones
The City Council recently
passed an ordinance for a pilot program restricting the usage of
cell phones in 18 school zones.

200,000 Smart Miles
San Antonio citizens are
encouraged to achieve 200,000 “smart miles” this September during
the Fourth Annual Walk & Roll Challenge.
Smart miles are efficient and healthy modes of transportation that
reduce trips to the gas pump, save money, improve air quality,
and provide health benefits.

Moonlight Evening
It's that time again, time to enjoy the flowers by moonlight at the
San Antonio Botanical Garden's Gardens by Moonlight event.
From 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27 guests
will enjoy live musical performances and scrumptious culinary treats
all by the light of the captivating fall moon.

Latino Music Festival
The Heart of the City will once again take center stage in September
as Main Plaza hosts the inaugural San Antonio Latino Music Festival.
The two-day celebration taking place on Friday, September 12 and
Saturday, September 13 will feature some of San Antonio's and the
state's best Latino artists including storied Tex-Mex accordionist
Flaco Jimenez, Texas Tornado Augie Meyers, singer Rita Vidaurri, and
Sextol Sol. |

The City will host the 2008
Community Development Summit September 15 through 17 at the Henry B.
Gonzalez Convention Center, 200 E. Market.
This year’s theme is “Lessons from the Past – Opportunities for a
Sustainable Future.” |
