  • clovía is a free event that turns major city streets into a safe place for people to exercise and play. The streets become temporarily car-free for about 6 hours on Sundays for families to run, ride bikes, take exercise classes and enjoy their city streets.

  • The San Antonio Bexar County Bicycle Mobility Advisory Committee (BMAC) and Pedestrian Mobility Advisory Committees (PMAC) each meet monthly at the San Antonio-Bexar County Metropolitan Planning Organization and the public is always welcome to attend.

  • San Antonio's 2nd clovia was bigger and better than the first! It was a beautiful sunny day and more than 40,000 people came to enjoy the sun and streets on their own human power. People biked, skated, ran, walked, and wheeled throughout the two-mile stretch of Broadway on a Sunday afternoon.

  • San Antonio to host the Texas Trails and Active Transportation Conference. Active Transportation is actively growing  and includes hiking trails, bike lanes, urban pedestrian corridors, paddling trails, government initiatives in rural, suburban and city areas. It encompasses recreation, work, school related and wellness focused activity for participants from all walks of life.

    San Antonio is the perfect place in February to witness and experience this burgeoning interest in Trails and Active Transportaion.

  • San Antonio's 1st clovía was a big success. The city estimates over 15,000 attended the free event aimed to get people outside and moving doing any of a variety of activities. Be sure to come out again or experience it for the 1st time at future  clovía's starting in spring of 2012!


  • Bike Share Launch Event:
    Saturday. March 26th, volunteers rolled in to help roll out San Antonio's new bike share program, San Antonio B-Cycle. The bikes to be used in the system, housed at the central hub, were dispersed to their home stations. The large group of volunteers actually rode each bike out to their respective locations.

  • B Cycle Demo, Membership Drive, and Bicycle Friendly Community Award Ceremony:
    On October 29-30, the City of San Antonio unveiled plans for a new bike share program and received the Bicycle Friendly Community award from the League of American Bicyclists.

  • Bicycle Friendly Community Workshop: On November 2, 2009, Mayor Julian Castro, members of the City Council and staff, and community and corporate leaders took part in a workshop hosted by the Office of Environmental Policy to discuss how to make San Antonio a "Bicycle Friendly Community."

    The workshop was led by Bill Nesper, Director of The League of American Bicyclists "Bicycle Friendly America Program." During the workshop, attendees discussed the conditions of bicycling within the community. They assessed the issues affecting bicycle safety and use, learned about the successes of other communities as well as initiatives being pursued in San Antonio, and brainstormed about obstacles and opportunities.

    After the meeting, attendees, including Mayor Castro, took part in an afternoon bike ride from Main Plaza to the Mission Trail. Local experienced "ride leaders" were recruited to help out.
