Growth Management Plan
The purpose of the Growth Management Plan (GMP) was to identify findings based on studies of critical issues associated with BRAC-related growth and develop recommendations the community can use to mitigate any potential problems and take advantage of opportunities from BRAC. The study issues for the GMP were developed in cooperation with the Military Transformation Task Force (MTTF) and its committees and focused on four main areas:
- Economic Development
- Transportation and Infrastructure
- Healthcare Delivery
- Neighborhood Revitalization
The GMP was divided into eight tasks:
Tasks 1 through 5 examined ways the community could take advantage of growth at Fort Sam Houston to improve roads, provide economic development opportunities and promote neighborhood revitalization, especially in eastside neighborhoods.
Task 6 examined the impact of BRAC on Level One trauma services in the community and assisting the military in their clinical training.
Task 7 includes questions and responses from the community outreach activities during the development of the GMP.
Task 8 and 8a provide the vision to transform the neighborhoods surrounding Fort Sam Houston into areas where persons essential to achieving and sustaining excellence in the working environment want to live and attracting the BRAC supporting government and private sector enterprises that are necessary to support the new missions.
