Underwater Egg Hunt Flier (PDF)
Children, ages 5 to 12, are invited to enjoy a one-of-a-kind underwater egg hunt offered by the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department. A family inner tube race, spoon and egg race, and a creative straw craft are among the activities offered during the Underwater Eggstravaganza. As always, hundreds of colorful eggs, some designated for special prizes, will be tossed into the pool for an exciting hunt!
The event will be held at the San Antonio Natatorium, 1430 W. Cesar Chavez, on Saturday, March 21, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Children will be divided into three age groups. Five and 6 year olds hunting for eggs in the baby pool at 10 and 11:30 a.m. Children, ages 7 to 9, will hunt in the main pool at 10:30 a.m. and 12 noon. Ten to 12 year olds can join in on the fun in the main pool at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. All participants will receive a prize.
Lifeguards and staff members will oversee each hunt. Participants must wear proper swim attire (no denim please). Children must be able to swim on their own without the use of flotation devices. Participants are asked to register for the egg hunt in advance at the Natatorium or on the day of the event. The cost is $2 per child.
Regional pools to open May 5 for head-start on summer fun, exercise
Resident of all ages are invited to stay active and cool, while enjoying quality family time, at one of the Parks and Recreation Department’s four regional pools. The pools will open beginning Saturday, May 2.
The regional pools will remain open through Thursday, June 11, offering open swimming Tuesday through Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 7 p.m. Lap swimming will also be available Tuesday through Thursday from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Admission is free.
The regional pools are Heritage, 1423 Ellison Dr.; Lady Bird Johnson, 10700 Nacogdoches; Lincoln, 2803 E. Commerce; and Woodlawn, 221 Alexander Ave.
In addition, the four regional pools will be open in celebration of the Memorial Day weekend to include Saturday, May 23, Sunday, May 24 and Monday, May 27, from 1 to 7 p.m.
The regular outdoor pool seasons begins on Saturday, June 13 and continues through Sunday, Aug. 16.
A bronze medal went to Josh Salazar in the 50-yard breaststroke, 13-14-year-olds. Noah Moncrief also received a bronze medal in the 50-meter backstroke in the 11-12-year-old category. The 200-yard medley relay team of Michael Mendiola, Isaac Moncrief, Noah Moncrief and Josh Calderon placed sixth and brought home ribbons. Josh also competed in the 50-yard backstroke and brought home a 5th place ribbon.

Water exercise is therapeutic, low impact and is great for your heart. Classes are offered Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays from 7 to 8 p.m. during the outdoor pool season. The cost is $30 for a one-month pass for anyone 15 or older. Offered at Kingsborough, San Pedro, South Side Lions, and Woodlawn Lake pools. Ten participants needed in order to hold classes.
A competitive youth swim program is offered at all 24 outdoor pool locations during the outdoor pool season. There is a one-time registration fee of $10 per child, which includes a t-shirt. (A fee increase was effective with the FY14 budget which increased the fee to $10). Participants practice Tuesday - Friday in order to compete against other pools in three weekend meets. We are members of the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF) which is a non-profit organization established in 1925 to promote and organize amateur athletics in the state of Texas.

San Antonians looking for a rewarding job with great pay are invited to apply to serve their community as lifeguards for the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department. Applicants may complete an on-line application. They will be required to take a prerequisite skills test. Applicants must be able to swim 300 yards freestyle and breaststroke, tread water without using their arms for two minutes, as well as retrieve a 10-pound weight from the 13 foot depth and swim across the pool within the allotted time.
The department provides CPR and lifesaving training to prepare applicants for their lifeguarding responsibilities. Applicants who have passed the prerequisite test will be scheduled for training classes.
The starting salary is $9.02 per hour.
