Trail Closure: The boardwalk portion of this trail will be closed 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, October 8-12, 2012, in order for crews to power wash it. We apologize for any inconvenience.
This greenway features four miles of trail among scenic natural landscapes and includes a unique 3,400-foot boardwalk that runs along a Salado Creek wetland area by Nacogdoches Road. The Morningstar Boardwalk honors Army Staff Sergeant Christopher Morningstar, a native of San Antonio who gave his life for his country. The Boardwalk is decorated with a sign honoring SSG Morningstar and an inlay of red, white and blue ceramic tile topped by a star.
Trailheads are located near the McAllister Dog Park off Starcrest and at the south end of LBJ Park on Nacogdoches Road. In 2011, the trail will be linked to the Salado Creek Greenway North segment that runs from the Tobin Park trailhead at Loop 410 to Rittiman Road. In the future the trail will be linked westward along the new segments of Wurzbach Parkway.
