The San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department will hold registration for its Summer Youth Program for youth age’s six to 12 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, May 5. Registration will be held at Hamilton Community Center, 10700 Nacogdoches; Copernicus Community Center, 5003 Lord. Rd.; Ramirez Community Center, 1011 Gillette; and Parks and Recreation Headquarters, 5800 Old Hwy. 90 West. Each location will offer registration for a different selection of schools and other locations. The Summer Youth Program, which runs from June 18 through Aug. 10, provides a structured, supervised program for children at approximately 40 school and church sites and 23 Community Centers located throughout the City. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The program includes lunch, a snack and an entire day of recreation-themed activities including active games, sports, and arts and crafts.

Hamilton Community Center will offer registration for Arnold, Beacon Hill, Hawthorne, Neal and Woodlawn Hills Elementary schools in the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD). Other locations include Lockehill Elementary in the Northside Independent School District (NISD); El Dorado, Harmony Hills and Royal Ridge Elementary school in the North East Independent School District (NEISD) and Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church and the Woodlawn Gymnasium.

Copernicus Community Center will offer registration for Forbes, Gates, Pershing and Washington Elementary schools in SAISD and Elolf, Hartman, Hopkins and Woodlake Elementary schools in the Judson Independent School District.

Ramirez Community Center will offer registration for Hillcrest Elementary in SAISD; Armstrong, Athens and Price Elementary schools in the South San Independent School District and Bellaire, Columbia Heights and Gillette Elementary schools and Kingsborough and Leal Middle schools in the Harlandale Independent School District.

Parks and Recreation Headquarters will offer registration for Barkley Ruiz, Crockett and J.T. After May 5, all sites that still have openings will continue registration, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ron Darner Parks and Recreation Operations Headquarters, 5800 Old Hwy. 90 West. Registration for Community Center sites is ongoing at each of the centers during regular business hours.

The Summer Youth Program follows self-monitored guidelines, which will limit the number of participants per site. The Summer Youth Program maintains a 1:25 Staff to participant ratio. Space is limited at each location. Participants will be grouped according to age and staff will conduct age-appropriate recreation activities.

Fees are based on a sliding scale, according to income and family size. The fee schedule is available at www.sanantonio.gov/parksandrec.
