summer job opportunities

Date: January 13, 2011
Contact: Jody Garcia/207-4207

Are you looking for a rewarding summer job with great pay? The Parks and Recreation Department is hosting several "Wanna be a Lifeguard? Parties" in hopes that local teens, college students, and adults16 and over, will hurry down to the San Antonio Natatorium and apply. The parties will be held on Saturday, Feb. 12, March 12 and April 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the San Antonio Natatorium, 1430 W. Durango. Refreshments will be served.

Applicants must bring their swimsuits and be prepared to take the skills test. The test includes a 300 yard continuous swim utilizing the front crawl and breast stroke, and a dive of 13 feet to retrieve a 10 pound object and return it to the pool deck. The department provides CPR and lifesaving training. The starting salary is $9.02.

"We are hosting these parties to encourage applicants to lifeguard for the City’s Parks and Recreation Department this summer. Interested applicants will have the opportunity to visit with staff and discuss the qualifications and benefits of being a lifeguard. We really want to entice our lifeguards to apply as soon as possible so that we can get them processed, trained and prepared to lifeguard at our pools," said Assistant Director Janet Martin.

The swim season begins Saturday, June 11. Hours at the Parks and Recreation Department’s pools are 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. For more information call 207-3299.
