The San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department will hold registration for its Summer Youth Program for youth age’s six to 12 at 40 school sites from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, April 10 and April 17. Six Harlandale Elementary School sites (Adams, Bellaire, Carroll Bell, Schulze and Stonewall Flanders) and four South San Independent School District (ISD) Elementary School sites (Five Palms, Kindred, Palo Alto and Price) will be open for registration on April 10 at Ramirez Community Center, 1011 Gillette.

Eight Edgewood ISD Elementary School sites (Gardendale, H.B. Gonzalez, L.B. Johnson, Loma Park, Perales, Roosevelt, Stafford and Las Palmas) and the Parks and Recreation Department’s Woodlawn Gymnasium location will also be open for registration on April 10 at the Woodlawn Gymnasium, 1103 Cincinnati Ave.

Seven San Antonio ISD Elementary Schools (Cameron, Hawthorne, Highland Hills, Hillcrest, Pershing and Stewart) and two Judson ISD Elementary School sites (Old Converse and Hopkins) along with Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church will register on April 17 at Copernicus Community Center, 5003 Lord Rd. Six more SAISD school sites (Arnold, Beacon Hill, Crockett; Neal, JT Brackenridge and Woodlawn Hills) and three Northside ISD Elementary School Sites (Glass, Locke Hill and Valley Hi) will be open for registration on April 17 at the Ron Darner Parks and Recreation Operations Headquarters, 5800 Old Hwy, 90 West.

Parents are encouraged to complete the income verification process prior to the registration date if they wish to take advantage of the sliding income scale. Contact the community center of your choice or visit the Ron Darner Parks and Recreation Operations Headquarters, 5800 Old Hwy. 90 W., 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, for more information on income verification. The Summer Youth Program, which runs from June 14 through Aug. 6, provides a structured supervised program for children at 40 school and church sites and 23 Community Centers located throughout the City. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The program includes lunch and a snack and an entire day of recreation-themed activities including active games, sports, and arts and crafts.

The program follows self-monitored guidelines, which will limit the number of participants per site. The Summer Youth Program maintains a 1:25 Staff to participant ratio. Space is available for 75 to 125 participants per site depending upon the location. Participants will be grouped according to age and staff will conduct age-appropriate recreation activities. After April 17, all school and church sites that still have openings will continue registration, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ron Darner Parks and Recreation Operations Headquarters, 5800 Old Hwy. 90 West.

Fees are based on a sliding scale, according to income and family size. The fee schedule is available at www.sanantonio.gov/parksandrec. No child will be turned away due to inability to pay. Parents in need of assistance may call the Center for Working Families at 207-4021 to set up an appointment in order to make arrangements for a payment plan. For more information, call 207-3000.
