I Love My Parks

Celebrate July is Park and Recreation Month!

With July each year, comes sizzling hot weather, pool season, and National Recreation and Park Association’s annual July is Park and Recreation Month. I Love My Parks

"I Love my Parks and Recreation" is a unique take on the annual theme for the month, which has included past themes such as "Rock your Park," and most recently, "Get Wild." New this year is a fill-in-the-blank option on the annual Park and Recreation Month poster that people can use to declare why they love their parks and recreation.

We're asking citizens to print a Love My Park Pin Cards, fill in something you love about our City parks and post it in your work area or on your refrigerator. Take a picture of it and post it on our Facebook page or Twitter. Nationally, NRPA is running a weekly photo contest through its Facebook page and encouraging people everywhere to show the love by sharing photos of their posters and themselves out in local parks and recreation areas. Join the conversation by liking our Facebook page (San Antonio Parks and Recreation) and following us on Twitter (@SAParksandRec). Use the hashtag #ParkRecLove. To tag NRPA in your posts, type in @National Recreation and Park Association when you're on Facebook and #NRPA_News on Twitter posts.

These include free fitness in the park classes, fitness equipment, education classes in our Natural Area parks, dance classes, swimming lessons, lap swim, and many other activities that help San Antonio citizens build healthy habits and lifestyles.

Since 1985, America has celebrated July as the nation's official Park and Recreation Month. Created by NRPA, the Park and Recreation Month specifically highlights the vital role local parks and recreation play in conservation, health and wellness, and social equity efforts in communities across the country.

July is a great month for celebrating all parks because we have so much going on during the summer months. The Summer Youth Recreation Program, the Nutrition Program, the outdoor swimming pools are open, and programming at the Natural Areas is in full swing. Check out the activities on the Calendar. Invite the family. Spread the love around!
