ReNEW SA is a new program for organizing and strategically deploying the community development tools administered by the Department of Planning and Community Development (DPCD), Office of Historic Preservation, Center City Development Office, Development Services Department, other City departments, and outside partner agencies to create value from vacant, neglected, and underutilized properties in the City’s commercial corridors and neighborhoods. All the DPCD housing programs can now be found on the REnewSA website, in addition to other City departments and partner agencies programs and services information.
Tax Increment Financing (TIF)
is a special funding tool used by the City of San Antonio to promote
public and private investment in areas where little to no private sector
investment is currently taking place. A portion of collected taxes are
contributed to a fund that is used to help revitalize a designated area
of town called a Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ). The funds are
used to build and repair roads and infrastructure and rehabilitate
historic facilities and existing vacant buildings.
