letter dated May 15, 2006 The City of San Antonio would like to provide an update on the status of the Public Access Channel. As you know, Time Warner Cable unilaterally dropped Public Access Channel 20 from its network on January 5, 2006. Currently, the City is in discussions with Time Warner Cable to return the Public Access Channel 20. The City disagrees with the basis under which Time Warner Cable has dropped the Public Access Channel from its network, and maintains that Time Warner Cable should return Channel 20 to the community. In addition, the City is exploring with Grande Communications and AT&T in ways of airing Public Access programming on their networks. The City has purchased and installed video equipment, and continues to collect Public Access programming, as well as hired a full-time Television Programming Coordinator, in order to take over the operation of Channel 20. However, until the channel is returned to the community, Public Access programming will not be aired on Time Warner Cable’s network. The City will continue to accept Public Access programs, in order to be prepared to air programming, upon resolution of this matter with Time Warner Cable. Programs may be delivered to Frank Burns, Television Programming Coordinator, located at the Municipal Plaza Building (114 W. Commerce), 4th Floor, between the hours of 9 a.m. to noon and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. If you have any questions, please contact me at (210) 207-7234. Diane Galvan |
