Sidewalk and Lane Closure Applications

Sidewalk and traffic lane closure applications are handled by the Traffic Engineering Division.

Contractors utilize this type of permit when using the City's right-of-way in the downtown area for site demolition, construction, renovations, or building maintenance. The sidewalks or traffic lanes are often closed to prevent pedestrian or vehicular accidents. There are occasions when a sidewalk and traffic lane closure will require the contractor to coordinate with Building Inspections Department staff members. The contractor needs to schedule a meeting with the Traffic Engineering Division and the barricade company at least 48 hours before the job is performed

The items to be discussed at the meeting include

1) The type of work that is needed

2) Duration of time to complete the job

3) The date that the job will commence

4) How the barricades will be set up.

The cost of the permit is based on the area that is closed to the public. This cost is calculated at $0.0629 per square foot per calendar day.

Additional costs that will be incurred are the following:

1.) Inspection Fee - $20.00 (One-time per project)

2.) Application Fee - $20.00 (New permit or renewal of permit)

If your are seeking this type of permit, please contact the Traffic Engineering Division at 207-7755 for assistance.
