The Tactical Support Division, commanded
by Deputy Chief Michael Burns, has the administrative
responsibilities for the Traffic Section and Emergency Operations Section, the Tactical Response Unit (TRU, including
Special Operations), and the Crime Detection Section.
These are the sections that respond
to all critical incidents, unusual incidents, and special
events, and provide traffic control and enforcement.
DC Burns joined SAPD in 1977, and previously served in Patrol,
Evidence Unit, Homicide, Internal Affairs, and as Deputy Chief of
the Patrol Division. He was Deputy Chief of the Criminal
Investigations Division from August,
2005 until January 2006, when he was appointed DC of the Tactical
Support Division.
