 |
The Traffic Section
is commanded
by Captain Patrick Murnin, and has
administrative responsibilities for the units that
provide traffic
safety through prevention, education and enforcement.
The Traffic Section also has operational planning
responsibilities
for special events and unusual occurrences.
The Traffic Unit also coordinates the activities of the
SCHOOL CROSSING GUARDS ("Mama Patrols").
TRAFFIC CONTROL
Traffic Control is divided
into three shifts, each under the supervision of a lieutenant.
Each shift has the responsibility of managing the traffic
flow over 250 miles of expressways in the city limits.
Included in the management of traffic is the
responsibility for the detection and arrest of DWI
suspects, traffic crash investigation, traffic assistance,
haz-mat spills and critical incidents. This detail
also takes the lead in traffic planning for all parades,
special events such as Fiesta, and all Alamodome events, such as the
NCAA Final Four basketball games at the Alamodome.
The white covers on their regulation police cap
distinguish traffic officers from patrol officers
assigned to the Patrol Division.
