For Business & Contractors

Fire Prevention is probably the most effective means for reducing loss of life and property due to fire. SAFD’s Fire Prevention Division, which includes the Office of the Fire Marshal, works closely with design professionals, contractors, building owners and managers, and event promoters to ensure compliance with all fire codes and standards.

About Inspections & Permits
Fire inspections and permits play a major role in fire prevention and mitigation. The Fire Prevention Division works hand-in-hand with the City’s Planning and Development Services Department (PDSD).

Fees are charged for fire inspections and permit processing according to an established schedule. Fees must be paid ahead of time, even for foster care and day care facility inspections. Businesses and contractors can establish an escrow account through the Planning and Development Services Department (PDSD) to cover inspection and permitting costs. Payments can also be made directly to the Fire Prevention Office by mail or in person at 1901 S. Alamo Street. When making a direct payment, call the Fire Prevention Office at (210) 207-8410 to verify the fee amount before mailing.
