Fire Codes & Standards

Over the years, the public has developed high expectations of the Fire Prevention Division to identify and abate fire hazards in the community. At the heart of fire prevention and any code enforcement program is an adopted fire code and related standards. It is through fire codes and standards that the Fire Prevention Division derives its authority - its teeth. The fire codes and standards establish minimum requirements, but should not prevent or discourage someone from exceeding these minimum requirements.

The City of San Antonio Fire Code is made up of two key elements:

  1. The 2012 International Fire Code (IFC) developed by the International Code Council.  Full text of the IFC is available for purchase from the International Code Council.
  2. San Antonio’s Fire Code Amendments and Fees (Municode)

    Article IV Fireworks 2012 Amendments
