City of San Antonio Fire Prevention Division Fire Prevention is probably the most effective means for reducing loss of life and property due to fire. Our mission is to assist in the preservation of life and property by advocating, promoting, and providing leadership in the prevention, mitigation of fire, explosion and other related hazardous conditions. At the heart of any code enforcement program is an adopted fire code and related standards. It is the adopted fire code and the adopted standards that the Fire Prevention Division derives its authority, its teeth. Codes and standards establish minimum requirements, but should not prevent or discourage someone from exceeding the minimum requirement. Fire Prevention efforts will play an increasingly important part in the fire department activities into the 21st century, primarily because of the tremendous fiscal constraints being placed on the fire service. Over the years, the public has developed certain expectations of the Fire Prevention Division to identify and abate fire hazards in the community. The public also expects the Fire Prevention Division, as well as the Fire Service as a whole, to be their fire protection experts. Below is a list of Fire Permit
