The majority of fire department encounters variety of emergencies, not just fires. They respond to medical emergencies, motor vehicle crashes, aircraft crashes, trench cave-ins, building collapses, hazardous materials incidents, civil disturbances, technical rescues, explosions, tornados, earthquakes and terrorist attacks.
Becoming a Firefighter with the SAFD is not easy but with the right attitude and dedication, it can be accomplished.
There are three main phases candidates must complete to become a Firefighter:

In the Line of Fire is an insightful show about fire safety and other fire department related issues. The show, produced by the San Antonio Fire Department, covers timely topics discussed to increase the safety of San Antonio and Bexar County citizens. Guests on the show include fire fighting professionals and subject experts from a variety of safety and health related fields.
