News Release San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department Contact: Kelly Irvin/207-6122 Date: May 5, 2009 Summer Youth Program Registration set for SAISD school sites on May 16 The San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department will have the fourth in a series of registration sessions for selected Summer Youth Program school sites from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, May 16. Registration for 15 San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) school sites will be split between Copernicus Community Center, 5003 Lord Road, and Melendrez Community Center, 5919 W. Commerce. For a listing of the SAISD school sites and their corresponding registration site, go to www.sanantonio.gov/parksandrec. Each site has 100 slots available. Parents also may continue to register children for sites from Judson, North East, Edgewood, Northside, South San, and Harlandale School Districts, which began registration last month and still have slots available. The Summer Youth Program, which runs from June 15 through Aug. 7, features recreation-themed activities including games, sports, arts & crafts, and a weekly enrichment program in fine arts, science and fitness/nutrition. The hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The program includes lunch and a snack. Fees are based on a sliding scale, according to income and family size. The fee schedule is available at www.sanantonio.gov/parksandrec. No child will be turned away due to inability to pay. Parents in need of assistance may work with Parks and Recreation Department staff to set up a payment plan. Parents are also able to register their children at the Ron Darner Parks and Recreation Operations Headquarters, 5800 Old Highway 90 West, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, open until 6 p.m. on Thursdays.
