Parks and Recreation Department’s Come Out and Play Day
celebrates San Antonio’s Playful City USA designation

Playful City logoFrom games and sports activities to scavenger hunts, dance and music, the Parks and Recreation Department’s Come out and Play Day is a fun filled event promoting the many benefits of enjoying recreation in our City parks. The event scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at San Pedro Springs Park, 1315 San Pedro., also celebrates the City’s Playful City USA designation and promotes a healthy and active lifestyle.

“We are thrilled to have the Playful City USA designation,” says Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Janet Martin. “This Come Out and Play Day event gives us yet another exciting opportunity to showcase all the important things our department does to improve the quality of life for our residents. We feel it’s especially important to teach our children the life long benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle.”

Come out and Play Day will feature a variety of fun and educational activities including: • Interactive games and sports
• Scavenger hunt
• Refreshment booths
• Face painting
• Live entertainment
• Chalk art
• Spin art
• Free five-gallon tree give-away (while supplies last)
• How to properly plant trees
• Natural Areas activities
• Library activities and bookmobile
• Mascots
• San Pedro Playhouse children’s theatre activities
• Wheelchair tennis demonstrations
• Martial arts demonstrations

San Antonio is one of 33 cities across the United States recently honored with the designation of Playful City USA by national non-profit organization KaBOOM! for demonstrating a creative commitment to innovative strategies for making play a priority for the health and well-being of the children in the community.
