News Release San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department Contact: Jody Garcia/207-4207 Date: Jan. 27, 2009 Wanna be a lifeguard? Check out the hiring party! The Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a“Wanna be a Lifeguard? Party” in hopes that local teens, college students, and adults16 and over, will hurry down to the San Antonio Natatorium and apply. The party will be held on Saturday, February 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the San Antonio Natatorium, 1430 W. Durango. Refreshments will be served. Applicants must provide identification and a social security card and must bring their swimsuits and be prepared to take the skills test. The skills test includes a 300 yard continuous swim utilizing the front crawl and breast stroke, and a dive of 13 feet to retrieve a 10 pound object and return it to the pool deck. The department provides CPR and lifesaving training. The starting salary is $9.02. “We are hosting this party to encourage applicants to lifeguard for the City’s Parks and Recreation Department this summer. We really want to entice our lifeguards to apply as soon as possible so that we can get them processed, trained and prepared to work at one of our 23 pools as soon as possible,” said Aquatics and Athletics Superintendent Hank Salinas. The 2009 swim season begins Saturday, June 6. Hours at the Parks and Recreation Department’s 23 outdoor pools are 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. For more information, call 226-8541 or 207-3113.
