Classes are held at Cuellar, Hamilton, Melendrez, Normoyle, and Southside Lions Community Center, the Berta Almaguer Dance Studio, Commander's House and Lion's Field Adult and Senior Citizens Center and some music classes are held at Sam Ashe music store, 25 N.E. Loop 410. Programming includes classes for youngsters ages 4 and up, adults and some intergenerational classes that parents, grandparents and children can take together.
The Parks and Recreation Department has a wide range of special programs that focus on the arts.
Dances classes for youth include beginning Jazz and Hip Hop, Tap, Ballet, Afro-Brazilian, Mexican folkloric and Spanish Flamenco. For youngsters with other interests, the department also offers beginning percussion, guitar, and keyboard.
Dance classes for adults include beginning Spanish Flamenco, Mexican Folklorico and Afro-Brazilian, offered at the Berta Almaguer Dance Studio.

COST: $30.00 per Session. Money Order or Checks Only, Payable to City of San Antonio, No temporary checks.
Each Class meets once a week, a minimum of eight times during the fall session and six times during the summer months. No refunds or prorates.
Family member 1 · Most locations have multiple levels of instruction, open only by teacher promotion, therefore you must register with the teacher or Special Program’s staff member.

Catch the Take Note Band at the Arneson River Theater on July 9 when they'll help celebrate Contemporary Art Month from 7 to 8 p.m.
-Photo: headshot or with instrument
-Demo: live performance(DVD or VHS) or recorded demo (CD) showcasing current level of Rythm and improvisation skills in all styles of music studied
-Letter: Bio is encouraged if musician already has performance experience and/or a letter telling us how they could add to and benefit from this exciting program


Classes are offered at Sam Ash Store, Hamilton Community Center, Garza Community Center, Commander's House and New Territories Community Center. In addition, we've added a new site with the help of Sam Ashe Music. Classes have also been added at New Territories Community Center, 9023 Bowen. Check the spring schedule for specific information.
