Mayor Julián Castro said this summer’s unusually hot weather played a part in the decision to keep the pools open. “In light of the current heat wave, expanded access to the city’s swimming pools will give San Antonio families a safe way to cope with the weather.” The pools originally were slated to close on Aug. 9. As a result of this announcement, all 23 outdoor pools will remain open through Aug. 16. From Aug. 18 through Aug. 23, nine pools will be open, including Dellview, Lady Bird Johnson, Lincoln, Normoyle, Roosevelt, Southside Lions, Spring Time, Westwood and Woodlawn. Beginning Aug. 29, four regional pools will operate weekends through the Labor Day holiday weekend, with a final closing date of Monday, Sept. 7. These pools are Dellview, Roosevelt, Southside Lions and Woodlawn. Hours will be 1 to 7 p.m., with pools closed on Mondays. Admission will be free.
