News Release San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department Contact: Kelly Irvin/207-6122 Date: March 29, 2009 City officials break ground On new neighborhood park City of San Antonio officials joined citizens in celebrating the beginning of construction on the new Al Rohde Park, 11777 Spring Rain on Sunday. District 8 City Councilwoman Diane Cibrian participated in the ceremonial groundbreaking, along with Parks and Recreation Department Assistant Director Janet Martin. District 8 has earmarked $120,000 from the Capital Projects Fund Balances for construction of a playground, fencing, and other amenities on this .8980 acre property donated in 2008 by local real estate developer Al Rohde. The project will be designed in built in-house by Parks and Recreation Department staff. Attendees were treated to ice cream and paletas. Former City Councilman Al Rohde started in the real estate business in San Antonio in 1958, after retiring from the U.S. Marine Corp. He was elected to the City Council in 1975. He has served as president of the San Antonio Board of Realtors. ###
