Tree canopy consultant to share A representative from American Forests, the non-profit company contracted by the City of San Antonio to study the condition of San Antonio’s tree canopy, will share the preliminary results of that study with citizens and stakeholders at back-to-back public meetings hosted by the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department in December. Cheryl Kollin, vice president of American Forests’ Urban Ecosystem Center, is scheduled to be the speaker at both sessions. The first will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2, and the second meeting will be from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3. Both meetings will be held at the Norma S. Rodriguez City Council Chamber in the Municipal Plaza building, 114 W. Commerce. The City Council hired American Forests in 2007 to conduct an Urban Ecosystem Analysis in order to follow up on previous studies in 2002 and 2003. The study will show the city’s change in tree canopy and the associated rates. The study provides insight into the effects of tree canopy gain and loss on ecological services. Citizens will have the opportunity to ask questions after Kollin’s presentation at both meetings. For more information, call 207-8480. Comments can be sent to kirvin@sanantonio.gov.
