Contemporary Art Month The heART of it all is the theme that is celebrated throughout the month of July with Contemporary Art Month. The Parks and Recreation Department honors the arts with a series of one week art workshops this year, in addition to the traditional exhibit of paintings, sculptures and mixed media art created by students and instructors in the department's art program.
The 2007 exhibit will be mounted at Bolivar Hall, La Villita, 428 Villita Street, for the month of July. The hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Three art workshops will be offered at Roosevelt Park's new community facility, 331 Roosevelt, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, Monday through Friday, during the month of July for children ages 6 to 14. The cost is $50 per week and students may sign up for one or all three weeks. The July 9 session deals with clay works; July 16 with paper mache; and July 23, with creating a group mural or a three-dimensional form using skills learned in the previous two weeks. Click on brochure for the complete information and registration form. The art exhibit reception is scheduled for Thursday, July 12, at 6 p.m. at Bolivar Hall.
