Disc Golf Courses

ceremonial disc golf toss at grand openingParks and Recreation Department offers a nine-hole disc golf course at Nani Falcone Community Park, 7625 Mystic Park; an 18-hole course at McClain Park, 15700 O'Connor Road, and an 18-hole course at Pearsall Park, 4700 Old Pearsall Road.

The McClain course was designed by Shawn Low and Wayne Atkinson. It consists of 18 holes, total par is 56, and the total length is 5,533 feet.

The Pearsall Park, 4700 Old Pearsall Road, was designed by Rialto Studios and professional disc golfer Paul Taylor. The course consist of 18 holes, total course length of 5,680 feet* for a total par of 58. The course has recently gone through some design adjustments and several holes have been adjusted, affecting the total length of the course.

* Statistics on the course after adjustments will be available once the course sign has been replaced.

The courses are unstaffed and available on a first-come, first-serve basis. While park hours are 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., the courses are not lighted and are suitable for use during daylight hours. Admission is free.

Disc golf rules are similar to those used in Club Golf. It is played like ball golf using a flying disc and trying to toss it into pole baskets. One point is scored each time the disc is thrown and when a penalty is incurred. The object is to acquire the lowest score.

“Steady” Ed Headrick invented the game in 1975. Also the inventor of the Frisbee, Headrick was the founder of the Disc Golf Association and the International Frisbee Association. How do you get started? Tee off order on the first tee is by mutual arrangement or by flipping discs. The printed side is heads and the odd man should be first. Tee off order on all subsequent holes is determined by the score on the previous hole. The player with the lowest score tees off first.
