Public hearing set for renaming
of Hausman Road Park, Ridge Chase Park

The City of San Antonio will have a public hearing on the proposed name change for two city parks—Hausman Road Park and Ridge Chase Park—on Wednesday, April 25, at 5:30 p.m., at Edmund Cody Branch Library, 11441 Vance Jackson.

A committee that includes District 8 Councilman Art Hall will hear comments on the proposal to rename Hausman Road Park, 7038 Hausman Road, to Bonnie Conner Park, and Ridge Chase Park, 4802 DeZavala Road, to Edwin J. Gorrell Memorial Park.

The public may submit other names for consideration by mailing those to the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department, P.O. Box 839966, San Antonio, Texas, 78283, or call 207-8480, by April 13.

Bonnie Conner served as the District 8 City Council member for two terms beginning in 1999. In 1996, she co-authored the City’s Tree Preservation Ordinance and formed Friends of Medina River, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving a river corridor in south San Antonio. From 1997 to 1998 she served on the Parks and Recreation Board and the Open Space Advisory Board. Prior to her career in public service, she taught in public schools for 21 years.

San Antonio Police Officer Edwin Gorrell was shot by a suspect he was trying to arrest on February 22, 1988, and remained in a coma until his death in July 1988 at the age of 34. He was married with two young children.

Each year his wife and children visit the Police Memorial ceremonies to remember their fallen hero. It is the family’s hope that naming a park for him will give the surviving members, including his parents and young grandchildren, a place they can visit to reflect on the life of service and sacrifice he made.

For more information on the public hearing, call 207-8480. ##
